When Ames Russell crafted his first batch of hot honey, he drew on the traditions of generations of Appalachian Russells who came before him. His grandfather (also named Ames) always placed a dish of honeycomb on his farm table for guests, imparting warmth and sweetness with his simple gesture.
The younger Ames attributes his own foray into honey-making to fried chicken and a particularly insightful request from his wife. Whenever fried chicken made its way into the Russell kitchen, Ames went to town doctoring it up in pursuit of the palate-pleasing combination of spicy hot chicken drizzled with sweet honey. Ames made quite a mess in the process, and his wife wondered if there might be a way to combine the flavors he was so crazy about. Just like that, AR’s Hot Southern Honey was born.
Ames distributed his first batch of hot honey to friends and family as Christmas gifts in 2015. His mixture of sweet clover and floral wildflower honeys with de árbol red chili peppers was such a hit that Ames eventually quit his day job to devote his life to honey. The results have been, well, sweet—and hot.After five years in business, AR’s Hot Southern Honey—sourced from Appalachian hives and produced in Richmond, Virginia—is flying off the shelves in over 25 states. PEACH HOT SAUCE from AR'S HOT SOUTHERN HONEY.. When you combine fresh peaches, habanero peppers, honey, ginger, coriander, turmeric, garlic, Lemmon juice and apple cider vinegar you get a smooth and rich in flavor hot sauce like nothing I've ever had before. Yes, I've had peach hot sauce before, but not with all these ingredients. The combination of ginger, coriander and turmeric gives this sauce an earthy sweet flavor that blends with the flavor of the peach to give you a fruity smooth texture that is both flavorful and velvety. The addition of honey gives this sauce a sweetness that only honey can provide, something sugar can never do. The honey is added in very mildly, not to make it a super sweet sauce. HOT HONEY from AR'S HOT SOUTHERN HONEY.. This honey is exactly what any heat lover will want on their table. AR's blend of sweet clover and wildflower honeys with the heat of the habanero peppers are spot on. They take the habanero pepper and infused it into the honey to make it more robust—rather than a spicy sting at the end, the heat comes on in the beginning and stays to the end leaving a nice sweet sting on your tongue. This honey is amazing, I will keep this right on my table to use with every meal and snack. Great on a chicken, ham or turkey on a sandwich or as a dip. Perfect for ice cream, cake or cheese cake. Add to tea or as a sweetener to coffee or over fresh fruit. Apply as a glaze on ham or on the BBQ to your pork, fish or chicken, Anyplace you can add honey you can use this and add a little heat. SPICY HONEY PEANUT BUTTER from AR'S HOT SOUTHERN HONEY.. Here is something I have never heard of before, and we are extremely lucky AR's came up with it. IT IS AMAZING!!! They take the best Virginia peanuts, sweet honey infused with ghost peppers and blend them together to make a spicy honey peanut butter to die for. It's simply amazing. This will make a PP and J sandwich come alive with flavor like never before, mix it into oatmeal and smoothies, use as a dip for apple or celery, use as a base for sauces and dressings for Asian-inspired dishes, Spicy Honey Peanut Butter cookies, add to ice cream with chocolate sauce or anything peanut butter works with. I enjoyed it just eating it off of a spoon. Yes its that good!
